Hands-On Gardening Workshop - Feb 19

Why should you attend?? Our goal is to help bring out or enrich your inner green thumb. We’ll provide practical and proven growing methods for plants that grow well in our zone which will include vegetables, herbs and their flower companions. After this workshop you should be able to start and maintain a garden from scratch using raised beds, containers or planting directly into the ground. BONUS:  You can purchase locally grown, open-pollinated, heirloom and native seeds to get your garden off to a good start. EXTRA BONUS:  Free seeds with purchase of your summer favorites to help get started even faster. Your presenter, Linda L. Jones, Elements of Nature, will help you to grow and nurture your inner green thumb and have a fun and delightful talk about organic and sustainable gardening practices.  Linda will share her tips for starting and maintaining gardens as well as identifying and preventing common problems gardeners share in their gardening experiences....

Paid Workforce Training Opportunity 2/9/2022

CERT Training - November 20 & 21

Basic CERT Training is again available within Prince George's County beginning on November 20 & 21 at 9 AM. The CERT training is 16 hours over the course of 2 days and will be held at the Prince George's County Office of Emergency Management located at 7915 Anchor Street, Hyattsville, MD. Basic CERT Training covers skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training and practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to protect yourself and maximize your capability to help for the greatest number of people after a disaster. Pride Resolution

At the June council worksession, Council member Doug Bowles introduced a resolution recognizing June as Lesbian, Gay , Bisexual and Transgender (LGBTQ+) Pride Month in Colmar Manor.   Passage of the resolution is expected at the regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council on June 8 th .    A copy of the proposed resolution is available at https://tinyurl.com/cmuamjzd The resolution also calls for the raising of the Pride flag at the Town Hall flagpole.   This special event will take place at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, June 10, 2021.   All are invited to attend.

Pedestrian Detour on Bladensburg Road

ATTENTION PEDESTRIANS & CYCLISTS:  There are two pedestrian bridges alongside Bladensburg Road at Dueling Creek (between Port Towns Shopping Center and Fort Lincoln Cemetery) . . . one on the Cottage City side and one on the Colmar Manor side.  Both pedestrian bridges are currently closed for repair and/or replacement.  Maryland State Highway Administration has established a detour for pedestrians & cyclists.  Safe passage is available on the Cottage City side of Bladensburg Road at Dueling Creek.  Please use the crosswalks at 38 th Street and in front of Xtra Fuels at 3556 Bladensburg Road (see map) to access the detour. Officials from both towns are working closely with the State Highway Administration and other involved agencies as the projects progress forward.  The pedestrian bridge on the Colmar Manor side is expected to re-open late this year.  Replacement of the pedestrian bridge on the Cottage City side will take much longer.  ...
