Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season. TOWN OFFICES - Town offices will be closed on Monday, May 31st. If you have a police or fire emergency dial 911. For non-emergency police response please call 301-352-1200. TRASH COLLECTION - Monday, May 31st - only household trash will be collected - yard waste will not be collected - yard waste will be collected again on Monday, June 7th. CEREMONY @ PEACE CROSS - Colmar Manor American Legion Post 131 and the Town of Bladensburg will hold their annual Memorial Day Ceremony this Monday, May 31st, at 11:00 AM near Peace Cross (near the Korean / Vietnam Memorial on the Waterfront Park side of the roadway).
